Don't Join Independent Frats!

UO IFC "strongly discourages" students from rushing unrecognized/disaffiliated frats. Why is this?

Because they don’t have the ability to tell them what they can/can’t do. Honestly, just check out a bunch of houses, recognized and unrecognized, and see who you like. Don’t let the school scare you away from a place where you might be a great fit

The unrecognized frats aren’t regulated. They say “no rules” gives you freedom but it also means liabilities. Think about it. They aren’t subject to university sanctions for hazing or alcohol violations. The university will however, sanction individuals.

This isn’t completely true. There are still governing bodies over unaffiliated house. They still have to follow rules just instead of reporting to the IFC they report to their nationals.
