SigEp is moving forward rather than clinging to the past. The substance-free chapter home is proof of this progress. It's a shame some former brothers couldn't live up to standards and were removed. If they had continued to make progress in the Balanced Man Program, they would have been winning awards, networking with alumni volunteers and industry leaders, and getting showered with job opportunities in Silicon Valley, Seattle and Wall Street. Instead they chose to fail and were found to be not worthy of membership. It's really that simple.

The nationwide substance-free policy is bringing SigEp into a bright future for fraternities. The goal for a successful SigEp chapter at Oregon requires actively shifting the paradigm to promote an environment that is focused on academic success and away from the stereotypical fraternity experience. The chapter house was built by SigEp brothers who loved this Fraternity and this will be rebuilt better than ever.
Moving forward, the chapter facility is badly in need of renovation after years of partying and immorality. To be competitive as a living-learning environment, the house will be renovated in a partnership with FSL with support from expert staff from SigEp HQ. Removing large open spaces, and other structures built around the consumption of alcohol, will create a physical environment and social atmosphere where it is easier to make good decisions than to partake in illegal and destructive behaviors.

Implementing cultural change to this chapter, including around member development, Balanced Man programming and substance-free policy, is a great opportunity we are embracing. It is simultaneously challenging and very rewarding. Our SigEp chapter is surrounded by a network of support - alumni, volunteers, numerous online resources, Headquarters staff and university administration - who want to help make our chapter make this important transition. SigEp will be the most valued student organization - not just fraternity - on campus.
