curious about process

by:

Im not writing this to sound conceited or self absorbed but here it is... I consider myself a pretty girl im blonde green eyed and am about 5’7 and 135 pounds. I was on asb and cheer in highschool and had over a 4.0 gpa. Im an APHI legacy (mom at osu) and the only houses I got back were gphi and Dz for day 3 I seem like the perfect fit for a top house Im just confused on how less involved less attractive girls got top houses and I got two lower and bottom tier houses

this sounds super entitled... yes sometimes people slip through the cracks for higher houses but you’re saying because of who you are on paper you deserve to be in a top house. I think you should read this over and do some self reflection, maybe houses saw that...

Lol I basically fit your same description and I love my “lower tier” house! Please get over yourself. I chose my house because it was where I felt a genuine connection, just like everyone should.

I don’t think this is a fake post, or conceited. A lot of highly involved, high GPA, attractive girls get dropped. It’s usually a chemistry thing, if you didn’t hit it off with who you talked to. There’s a just so many PNMs. It’s hard to stand out in a thousand. Good luck on your decision.

I stopped trying to figure out the process when a girl from my high school with no extra curriculars, an Insta full of cat pics and 230 followers, and painfully shy personality got into A Phi.

I had the same experience. I don’t think it’s conceited of you to post this at all. It’s so confusing to me. The thing is I thought I really hit it off with the girls I talked to. I feel like something weird happened this year. I feel you so much

it’s unfortunate that some girls just drop once they don’t get the house they wanted! trust the process and make no mistake, recruiting as a sophomore with a specific house in mind is not easy...keep an open mind

Nah why pay thousands of dollars and commit to something that you didn’t chose. Move on and make space for others.

Every year the same comments are posted about how girls fall through the cracks or how this year was weird. It was not, recruitment is a flawed system that randomly assigns people based on a two min conversation and social media. Either accept that and the outcomes or exit the Greek system because it wont change.

Here's the #1 thing you need to understand about "the process:" we spend months practicing to make sure every single girl we talk to feels a connection. The best way to make sure you get everyone you want is to make sure everyone wants you. So it might be that a conversation you thought went really well really didn't. It also might be that the people you talked to loved you, but the chapter as a whole loved X number of PNMs more. Most chapters could imagine hundreds of women as sisters, but at the end of the day we only get so many bids to hand out. Every year some houses have enough legacies go through to fill most of a pledge class, plus plenty of PNMs come in knowing lots of members in certain chapters. Basically, all of this to say, the outcome might have very little to do with you. And, in response to what everyone who is dropped from their favorite house thinks in the back of your their head: no, you didn't get dropped due to a computer error. If you've accepted a bid give it an honest shot to see if you can see yourself there. Recruitment is rough, and tiers feel really important as a freshman. They're not, I swear. All that matters is finding a place where you feel like you belong. If you took a bid and decide the chapter isn't for you, then cool, you tried. But just remember that sororities aren't instant friends - you're only going to get out of it what you put in.
