commitment for frat

by:

I’m an incoming freshman looking to rush fall term. I was just curious, in general, what is the average time commitment per week for a pledge?

As a pledge, it could be almost like a full time job so 30+ hours. Once you’ve been initiated, it’s more like 2 hours a week, and a certain amount of community service a term.

Join a frat where they don’t make you a servant...avg commitment should be a few hours a week. Several chapters don’t make you come over and clean everyday etc. nobody should have to add 30 hours a week for frat barf cleanup on top of school etc.

Depends on the house you join. If the chapter has a rigorous pledgeship, don’t be surprised to have it feel like an extra class or two’s worth of work each week. Especially time intensive on the weekends if you’re sober monitoring and cleaning up after parties.

Yup this is accurate, usually if you join a top tier house the pledge ship is harder than if you were to join a non top tier house, it’s just how it goes because they are so sought after

who the #$#% wants to clean up barf? This isn't the 80s - grow up. Join a frat with a good alumni network and knows how to chill.

The best alumni networks tend to come with the fraternities who’ve traditionally had strong pledgeships.

That's obviously not true. Theta Chi, beta, Phi psis all are small nationally. Lambda, sigep, sae are huge and sae and lambda don't have pledges. Sigep initiates after 2 weeks and sae after 90 hours of bid signing

Umm Lambda absolutely has pledges where did you hear that?
Also a hard pledgeship tends to equal a strong brotherhood in later years. You go through cleaning up barf, sleeping a week on a basement floor, and spending your entire sunday scrubbing from 6 am until night, you’re gonna be way tighter with your brothers.

Just because their nationals say they “have to initiate their pledges in 2 weeks or whatever” or they have “associate members” doesn’t mean the chapter is gonna necessarily follow that at all

No. They are small. Look at the numbers of total chapters and members you dork. Doesn’t matter what campuses they are at...

Of course they don’t have pledges. I’ve been there. Believe it or not some chapters do actually follow some rules. Don’t be an idiot.

cleaning up barf made me closer to my bros...uh no. Having cool guys to hang out with and go to games and parties with = close bros. Choose wisely.
