why aren't we going to shasta this year?
by: helloI am a current freshman and I learned recently of the death of the man in Fiji last year and I am extremely sorry for their loss. Is this why UO is not going to shasta this year? All my friends are getting ready to go at OSU but I haven't heard anything from my sorority or my boyfriend's fraternity.

Yeah I’m a frat here and I’m pretty sure that’s everyones consensus in my fraternity. Also if most people decide not to go, it kinda makes It impossible for just a few frats and sororities to go/just not worth it. Also some think it’s poor taste to go back after what happened, but idk I don’t think that should be the case. Maybe it’s a little bit of of what happened, but also people thinking it’s too dangerous now I’m not sure.

I know that what happened last year was tragic and I send my condolences to those affected by it. However, I do feel like just because of that one incident last year, it shouldn’t have to ruin the fun for everybody else. I’m not sure what houses are even going anymore. Hopefully it would be bigger next year

As a OSU student right now, I think it's good that you guys are not going this year for the respect of what happened last year. But if you do go back night year, DO NOT sleep on the island. Pay the extra to get more boats and sleep on the boats. It's so stupid to sleep on that island just because you don't want to pay extra.

Agreed. Is this more of a one year skip to be respectful and then everyone will go again next year?
