going greek worth it?
by: possible PNMI know this is Greek rank so probably biased, but would you say going Greek at UO is worth the dues and time commitment and stigmas from non-Greeks? I love the idea of a sorority experience, but idk how authentic it is here

The truth is not really. The frat scene is mediocre and any pretty girl can get into any party anyway. You will be bored with the frat scene by end of sophmore year and then its just a bunch of chapter meetings and rules...and now you may have to live-in and deal with a sleeping porch for 2 years?? If I were a freshman again I would likely say no.

If you are a guy, it’s definitely worth it... good luck trying to get into any party on campus. House parties aren’t as fun in my opinion. I have many guy friends that aren’t in houses and they feel that they do miss out on having a social life.
If you are a girl, it’s not so much worth it (depends on what you want to get out of it). chances are any frat party would let any or all girls in so you don’t need to worry about having a social life bc there are many opportunities every weekend to go to any of them.

I rushed as a freshman and if I could go back and redo I would. We were barely on campus one week and had no idea what other kinds of activities or organizations were out there. I was worried I wouldn’t have friends if I didn’t join a sorority but my non Greek friends have done just fine (and have more freedoms) . Like someone else said by the end second of second year it gets old. My advice is rush your second year after you have settled in to things.

One thing about sorority life that I didn’t know is how much it takes over your life. My non Greek friends have solid friend groups that go out all the time and travel together. My focus has been on my sisters and trying to “move up” through house ranks. If you’re not always with your sisters you get FOMO and the cliques are forming without you. Then you feel like you have one foot in your sorority and one foot out some days I’m not sure where I best fit.
