chances of being dropped from every house??

by:

it sounds silly but ill be a freshman at uo this fall and i really would like to join a sorority but im scared i'd get dropped from every single house!
i have a good gpa, very kind and outgoing(i work at dutch so im pretty bubbly) and if it matters i have an athletic and skinny build. i love the idea of a philanthropy and making new friends! thanks so much!

Many, many girls got dropped by every house this year. Too many girls for too few spots. Doesn't mean you shouldn't rush - you definitely should! - but UO has become a lot more competitive than it used to be.

I do not think the above post is accurate. If you maximize your choices and go all the way through rush yoir chances of being dropped by all houses is almost zero. The chances of ending up in a bottom tier house are significantly highet but a great greek experience can be had in all houses.

You will do great! Go in with a positive attitude and an open mind. The Greek system here is very open compared to most schools and people party across al tiers so don't worry about ranks or any of that junk!

even if you do end up getting dropped from every house (or end up with houses you don’t love) you can always join through COB! I know of at least 7 houses that did COB this year and it’s MUCH less pressure and effort and the craziness that comes with fall formal! Don’t stress it girl you got it :)

I know people that got dropped from COB, too, though, so just be cautiously optimistic! COB is still "rushing", you don't just sign up and "join". I'm sure you'll find something great :)

ik this was posted a while ago but if you went through recruitment and got dropped by the houses you wanted and then chose to try and join through COB would that be looked down upon? like if they already rejected you wouldn’t you look kind of dumb for going back and trying again type of thing? not trying to be rude im just asking for my own curiosity because im afraid of getting dropped by the houses i want and want to know if COB is actually a viable option if that happens

Unless you do something super cringey or awful during recruitment, chances are they won’t even remember you. A lot of women who do COB also did not go through formal recruitment and nobody really cares. If you join a sorority you are a member just like everyone else

You would only be dropped entirely by the process if your grades are questionable. SK and DZ are very welcoming houses with great girls. There are several that didn't even make quota. Theta and DDD too. You just have to keep an open mind and ignore the "tier" talk! Good luck 2018 PNMs!
