recruitment
by: Nervous
Hello,
I'm a freshman girl who will be participating in recruitment. I'm really excited and i'm a really social person, but I'm a bit nervous about my GPA. I got a low GPA this first semester and I don't want this to break my chances of getting into a sorority. Will if affect my chances? I plan to do better next semester. Adjusting was hard for me this first semester. Will they understand that?

Your idea of a low GPA is subjective so I can't tell you for sure if you're in the clear. All of the chapters have national GPA requirements, but some chapters are more flexible than others when it comes to taking girls who are beneath their requirements. I'd say that if you have around 2.7 or higher, you should try going through recruitment because you'll probably be fine. However, I've heard of girls getting into chapters with 2.5s(maybe even lower) though, so if you really want to rush this semester, then do it but know there's a chance it may not go in your favor. If you are really concerned though and don't want to risk being dropped/waste money, then wait until next spring to go through recruitment and spend time focusing on your grades. Also, if your GPA worries you then try explaining that to sisters in recruitment if it comes up, they will probably understand and empathize with you! Sorority girls are human; we've all had struggles of our own and we know that it can be hard to adjust to college.

If you get dropped can you try again next year?
