sorority recruitment
by: NAU'22
Hello,
I'm coming to NAU next year from Colorado, and really want to join a sorority. No one in my family was Greek until my older sister went to a large SEC school and went through recruitment (her sorority is not at NAU). She's incredibly bubbly and outgoing, where I'm a bit more shy and reserved. Not that I can't have fun or talk to people, I just tend to take a bit to warm up, I guess. Remembering what her recruitment was like makes me freak out a bit.
How does recruitment here compare with these massive Greek schools?
- She had to hunt down multiple Recommendations for each sorority. Is that necessary here, or will one each do the trick? Or do you need them at all?
- She agonized over what to wear every day (Style, brands, colors). Is it that important (assuming you are dressed appropriately for the day) here?
- Everyone there says it's almost impossible to get into certain sororities there unless you're from the right suburb in that state. Is that true here, or will I be limited being out of state?
- If you aren't hung up on tiers, and just want to find a sorority that you can have fun in and make friends, is recruitment considered easy? My sister's school claims to have a tough recruitment, but something like 93% of girls get a bid. Is it high here too?
- People from her school started stalking her social media very early. Is that a thing here? I keep my Insta private. Should I not?
Thanks for any advice you might have. I can't wait to get to campus next year, I'm just a little overwhelmed by everything!
- Any other advice for me? I have excellent grades, activities and all of that sort of thing

Recruitment at NAU is very laid back compared to a lot of other schools! No letters of recommendation are needed. Outfits are not the end of the world, they will give examples at the meeting they will hold right before recruitment starts! Brands totally do not matter, as long as you are comfortable in what you are wearing and following the guidelines provided. Recruitment for me was so fun, and everyone finds their home! My biggest advice is to always be yourself during recruitment! Go in with an open mind and you will no doubt find your place here. See you during recruitment;)!
