I went to a really big university that had a huge party scene. Like one of the biggest party schools in the country. I didn't do too hot academically so now I'm doing a little community college. I am thinking of attending UNT next fall. I would want to join a sorority that knows how to party but grades are also important to me. I can't screw up twice. So I would be rushing as a sophomore but I have friends in ChiO, DG, and KKG. Any thoughts? Is it hard to get into these sororities even if you know girls already in them? Do these sororities even party? Sorry, I know that's a lot of information and I asked a lot of questions but I'm just curious. Thanks!

I think most of the sororities party. I see DGs, Kappas, PiPhis and APhis out the most. PiPhis are generally known as the partiers but rude and not that great of a sisterhood. It's somewhat difficult to get a bid from ChiO and Kappa (and PiPhi and APhi) but I'm sure if you know active members it won't be as hard.

I'm just going to be honest with you at UNT there's a secert most PNM'S don't know. If you're not an incoming freshmen it's really hard to get a bid. I had two friends that went through rush, one was 21 the other 20. Neither got a bid and, one was told flat out at Kappa's rush party that it was because of her age that they wouldn't bid her. So if you're going to rush don't put your actual age on the app just say your 19. You might not have a problem with the houses you know girls in but, in the others.... Also the party houses are ADPI, KD and a few DG.

My best friend is a kappa (fall '13) and there was a girl in her pledge class who was 21. There was also multiple girls who were 20. Don't believe what everyone says on here.

I'm sorry but, it's true if they know you're an older girl you'll have a hard time. Heard that from an ADPI and a Kappa. Not sar you shouldn't rush just don't blab about being older. And, to the girl saying it's not true how is it when so many upper class go through rush that one or two actually get in anywhere?

Honestly, being older it's not that hard getting a bid from any sorority. Some even have girls who rushed as a junior.

Hey girl,
Definitely go through recruitment and try it out. I personally love UNT and our Greek Life has come along way and like every school, Greek life has it's struggles. UNT as a whole doesn't like Greek life and anytime someone Greek gets in trouble, they make it into a huge deal just to make Greek life look bad.
I personally am Greek, and I encourage you to go through recruitment and see for yourself. Greek life isn't for everyone, and honestly on my first day of recruitment I went to half of the houses and wanted to quit. But I stuck it out and am so happy I did, because later that day I went to the house that because my home, my sorority.
Whatever sorority you end up at, is where you're meant to be and becomes apart of you, it becomes your home. I am so glad I joined back in the fall of 2011 and spent these last 4 years in my sorority with my sisters. I found my best friends, future bridesmaids, and becoming Greek has taught me so much. However, if you do chose to become Greek, represent your sorority wisely and respectfully. Being Greek means that you become a leader; once you wear those letters, you are not only representing your sorority, but you're representing our school. Our Greek life. You're representing yourself. So do it wisely and become apart of an organization that'll change your life for the better.
Don't listen to these comments about how sucky our Greek life is, they are either nongreek or had a sucky experience. But you decide.

It doesn't matter what age you are. It is very very rare a sorority won't take you because of your age.
