Will rushing as a sophomore hurt me a lot? This fall isn't a good time for me to go through recruitment and even if it was I've missed the deadline. I just don't want to be cut from every house if I wait until my second year.

It probably won't hurt, but I'd rush as soon as you can because it'll keep your options more open. Panhellenic extended the deadline to august 20th!

Most sororities are harsher on juniors and almost never take seniors. Sophomores are not scrutinized much if even at all.
