aphi

by:

I am a previous member of aphi, and dropped out after the first year. I can honestly say joining this sorority has been the worst decision of my life and even after dropping out about a semester ago they are coming back to haunt me and trouble me with financial things. They only want to get your money out of you and I am coming here to honestly tell all future girls planning on rushing to not go through with aphi. They are just a money hungry organization and trust me you will regret your decision.

There are national dues that are required for every member after you're initiated. Do you just want them to pay for you when you decide to quit because you can't make friends or whatever the reason?

I'm actually still friends with many girls in it..... but I dropped because of unorganization, and lack of athority to run a sorority. I paid the nationals fees already but they've been trying to get more money out of many girls, and that I was told myself by our previous financial chair who dropped because they are so money hungry. Check your facts before you go replying on here. Thanks.

Regretful, you signed a contract.
There is no "money hunger"
The dues are outlined up front, if you aquire fines or make additional purchases then you will have to pay more, but other than that
You signed your name along with the amount owed.

Just because you don't know how to read what you are signing doesn't mean the organization is disorganized or "money hungry". If you genuinely believe you have an issue posting anonymously on greek rank is not the way to fix that.

This person made the exact same post at Ole Miss.

Apparently some group is intimidated by APhi and is running around on gr bashing them.

Every sorority will have chapter dues, national dues, parlor fees and Panhellenic dues. Sorry if you did not read your contract. Alpha Phi des not allow chapters to charge any fines for missed meetings, etc... like other chapters do. The only time Alpha Phi will access a fine is for missing initiation or recruitment functions. Sorry sweetie, but I don't think your complaint has any merit.

Did not know. But don't join Theta either. They're not as money hungry, they're just mean.

My friend is a treasurer for Zeta at another school. She loves her sorority but feels the same. She has talked to other sororities at her school and all their treasurers agree. The national organizations are a multi-million-dollar business. They have accountants, membership growth personnel, and many other staff members to pay. Colonizing new sororities arent cheap. They do a lot of things that take money. It is not a financial commitment to be taken lightly. You signed a contract. You owe them money. It is what it is.

Colonizing sororities aren't cheap. PNMs keep that in mind as you consider ADPi. There are pros and cons to being part of the first pledge class at a university. Since it is just being established, you may not have all the answers about what your financial costs will be. Every chapter creates their budgets using an estimate of how many active members there will be and will either have to adjust budgets OR decrease activities to stay within the budget. Ask questions during recruitment about what types of costs you can expect in addition to dues (t-shirt, big/little gifts, big appreciation week gifts, fines, participation in philanthropy events, expected donations to philanthropies) and make sure you are able to afford it BEFORE you sign the financial commitment form which OBLIGATES you to pay. Yes, you can be sent to collections or taken to small claims court or have your credit history ruined by not taking your financial obligation seriously.
