LOL no. Most girls in greek life (and most students who go here) are from Ohio, so no you don't have to be rich. There are a mix of girls who are considered upper middle class and girls who fall below or maybe a bit above that but it's more about how you present yourself. Dress/look well put together and have good conversations and money won't matter (Although some houses DO recruit on looks but thats a whole different thing.) Not having a lot of money won't keep you from a house if they like you based on other things.

Not sure where the rich stereotype comes from at all but it's funny when girls here forget they don't live on the west coast. Just because you live in a 500k house in a suburb, just remember at the end of the day...it's still Ohio.

Agree you don't have to be rich but no matter what housed you go to it's important to look respectable during recruitment so while you don't need to drop hundreds, maybe buy a few new nice things to wear.

Also while money isn't a huge thing here some houses def do choose based on looks more than others. Make sure you feel like your conversations are genuine during the process! These girls will be your sisters at the end so don't worry about how houses "rank" on this site.

You absolutely do not need to be “rich” or come from money to be in any sorority. The sororities at OU are not like those in the south that prefer girls that wear name brand clothing/shoes and carry $1500 purses. That’s not to say joining a sorority can’t be expensive. You are looking at $1400-$1850 in fees your first year (1st year fees are much higher than normal) & will need to spend some money on clothing (date party/social outfits- add another $500) unless you came to OU with all of those clothes already. You will find that living in the houses your sophomore or junior year will be much cheaper than living on campus (by about $2500). Good luck to you and I hope you consider one of the houses!
