description of each fraternity on campus
by: Bobcat '21I'm coming to Ohio University next year as a freshman, and I'm interested in rushing. I'm going to make my own judgements when I get on campus, but I wanted to know what each group is kind of like, a description on them, or how they're perceived. I have friends who are Juniors at OU now and they say really good things about Acacia, Phi Delta Theta, and Sigma Chi!

Depends on what you're looking for. While the three you mentioned don't fit the mold of typical "top tier" fraternities, they all seem to all be rising steadily on campus. Acacia is fairly athletic and does well with philanthropy. Phi Delta Theta is numerically the largest of the three, and is sort of laid back with a wide range of personalities. Also a new house on greek row. Sigma Chi is the newest on campus, and the smallest of the three. They've exploded the past two semesters, due to their clout nationally and making good moves early on. No house yet.
Looking outside of those three, Phi Psi & Beta are top preppy fraternities, while Lambda (arguably) and Sig Pi also top tier, but are much more known for raging. FIJI is smaller, but with a really nice house next to all the sororities. Phi Tau is kind of in the same boat. If you're looking at these groups (or ones not mentioned), then you should just meet them before or at rush.\n\n\n\n\nJust rush

Everyone asks questions like this on this site, leave the kid alone. Also stop trying to make Sig Pi, Phi Psi, and Beta these upper echelon type of groups when that is not the case. Fact of the matter, every group is a fraternity and every fraternity has different people. It's all about finding who you like and see yourself fitting in with, don't join a group because of what you've heard or even based on this site; you should rush and see what happens. Now as far as the three groups you listed (Acacia, Phi Delt, and Sig Chi) they are very nice, cool, and sweet guys; but don't take my word or anyone else's; make up your own mind and see who you like and by the end of the day you'll be really happy with your decision because you've chosen a brotherhood you'll be linked to forever.
