I missed rush in fall and want to rush in spring

It is completely informal. Last year you were able to sign up to be recruited and organzations could contact you if they were interested. However, in the past you would need to know someone in a particular org.

Self-paced challenges allow for members to enter and exit challenges at their own pace. Let's say you are recruited in late January -- then you just join other members in the Sigma challenge who joined last semester and have already completed six of the eight Sigma Challenge meetings this semester. You join the rest of the members in the Sigma challenge for the remaining two meetings. If you have not attained Phi status by the end of the Spring semester, you can complete the challenge asynchronously using the game-changing Balanced Man Program App to unlock the Phi level and continue to make progress towards graduating with the rank of Brother Mentor.
