I'm in a fraternity, but several of my friends in sororities pay $300 a month. This includes the "hidden fees" such as 3-4 T-Shirts each month on top of everything else. It might not be that costly if you can avoid the peer pressure to not buy everything/go out every weekend, but you wont be able to.

Dues for sororities average $2000 a semester but that's with a meal plan included (except for one sorority I think) and the meal plan is a chef who cooks three meals a day at the house so you have to eat there. And yeah, you'll spend a lot of money on shirts, sweaters, and bags. There are some dues that are almost $4000 a semester too but I only know two sororities that pay that much.

Just be ready to spend thousands of dollars a semester, regardless of the sorority because they're exactly right about the hidden stuff. I wouldn't have done it if my parents didnt pay.... I don't think most people do. You can go on a monthly plan to pay dues though if you need to
