frat rush parties
by: out of the loopI've heard some guys talking about rush parties but didn't hear about the until after they happened. How important are these to go to to get good bids and how do I even go about finding out about them?

Knowing people in fraternities coming into college gives a huge advantage. I wouldn't give up hope though. During formal rush, you will still have a chance to make an impression on a few guys in each fraternity and maybe get them to vouch for you when they decide to vote on their new members.

At formal rush you'll be able to find some guys you fit in with. If you really want to get a bid, make sure you're talking to AS MANY brothers as possible and asking questions that aren't the usual- "where you from?". Sometimes knowing someone in a fraternity can hurt because you might only talk to that one guy. Overall, don't be afraid to put yourself out there and remember that it is most important to be yourself. Two years from now you want to be around guys you like, not guys other people thought were cool freshman year.
