panhell advice
by: year offHey hope somebody can answer this question for me. I took a year off and now I'm back. I'm technically a sophomore but Im supposed to be a junior. Will this impact my chances during rush? Also, do I list myself as a 2nd year or a junior on the recruitment form?

Truthfully, some sororities do care about this kind of thing, and personally I find it silly that they do. I went through recruitment as a regular sophomore, and even that was considered too delayed for several of the sororities.
Definitely still go through recruitment, and you'll find the place that is right for you. There are a number of wonderful, welcoming sisterhoods on campus that would be lucky to have you.
I'd say list yourself as a second year, just because technically this will be your second year at NYU. But definitely don't be afraid to mention your situation during recruitment.
I hope you find the sisterhood that is right for you.

If you are a sophomore according to Albert, just say you're a sophomore. Even if you had taken a year off between high school and college, you'd still be a sophomore. You finished your freshman year, took a break, and are now a sophomore. You just happen to be a year older. I 100% don't think this is a big deal, but I also don't think you need to waste too much time explaining yourself/getting too personal during rounds. Once you join an organization and get close with sisters, they'll figure this out/you can tell them. People take time off or extend their studies all the time.
