Was wondering about nationally

Also, i’ve asked around and I heard some good things about our school’s dphi so why is it ranked last 😯

unless you plan on getting involved in your sorority on a national level or as an alumni, you should base your impressions on the women in the NYU chapter. they will shape your experience in the sorority and they're a great group of women!

National ranking isn't really a thing, but if you are looking at size or national reputation, ZTA is arguably the largest national sorority of those at NYU (and maybe in the NPC), and you will find their members in pretty much every US city. DG, Pi Phi, and Kappa are comparable but might be more well known in the midwest and south than they are in the northeast. AEPhi, DPhiE, and AST are better known in the northeast, and often have the top chapters at the schools where they are located.

In any event, while alumnae network might be a factor, your connection to the women in the NYU chapter is more important than anything else, because those relationships are your reason for joining in the first place. Then consider how their ideals/activities/goals align with your own. Meet members of every chapter and let your feelings be your guide. It doesn't matter what their national "rank" is. Good luck!

Answer: it doesn’t really matter to most people. There’s schools in the south where everyone back from 100+ years from your family or town was an XYZ so the expectation is that you will be, too. It probably does help with networking in those places, but that’s not everywhere. That’s why at a school like this one, a nationally smaller sorority is often the most sought after.

The only real need you will have for nationals as an undergrad is if something serious goes wrong in your chapter or you need extra help in recruitment for low numbers. I don’t see either being an issue with DPhiE at NYU. As an alum, you might not find a DPE alum chapter in every city you move to, but how important is that?

The main part of your sorority life occurs in undergrad- so pick the chapter you like and where you get along or else...what’s the point? Why pay to be part of an organization you don’t really like for some future benefit that you may or may not even need?
