How often do people NOT get a bid at NYU?
by: newtothenyuHow often do people not get a bid from any sorority at NYU? I know it's hard to say, varies by school, etc., but I'm just wondering if you've heard of anyone thats gotten rejected from ALL sororities at NYU.

It happens more than panhel says. They just make it seem like it’s rare so more people will sign up. A lot of girls last year did not get ANY responses when bids were sent out but they did COB fall and spring semester. Idk y NYU is so secretive. If I had been made aware of their bs I would have not been pressured to join the group I did and just wait for COB. It’s a much easier process to directly get into a house of ur choosing. I mean, esp w the number of girls who signed up this year and it’s on zoom, it’s gonna be really hard for u to stand out to them and they’re only going to remember the same few girls so I’d say COB is the way to go if u don’t want to lose ur sanity.

Almost everyone gets bids — it’s done by a software. Last year, it was done by hand, and even then the VPRs were given names of people who didn’t get invited throughout the process and they always got SOME invites. People who get dropped by all the sororities get dropped because THEY did not want a certain sorority back. Lots of people drop out of the process during because they get dropped by an org they liked. Very few people actually get dropped by everyone.

Registration didn’t require UPFRONT payment, but it was NOT free. Seriously, read the NYU panhel recruitment 2021 website. It literally says that registration is NOT refundable, even if you don’t get a bid. The $150 fee was stated on the registration FAQs page. They bill your student account later. The FAQ page on the NYU Panhel recruitment website says NUMEROUS times that the registration FEE (Yes, a FEEEE!!!) is NOT refundable.
It’s. Literally. On. The. Website. LOL. READ THE WEBSITE. The fee this year was $150 and you get billed to your student account after the fact (whenever they get around to it, basically).
Seriously, READ. THE. WEBSITE.

Thanks. I feel better knowing that not everyone even heard back last year. I got called back to 1 sorority Sunday and felt like a reject (but happy to have the chance at any group still). I thought I might be the only one who only had a chance of 1 group even offering me a bid. I’m nervous I won’t get a bid Friday and trying to make myself feel less like an outcast.
I don’t see why NYU isn’t more open about the process and also about COB for the sake of making people feel less rejected if nothing else.
If 500 people rushed this year at $150 each, NYU made $75,000+ off sorority rush this year alone. Plus frat rush, however many participated. I saw sorority numbers of PMN over 500, so there were at least 500 girls.
I’m thankful any sorority called me back, but feel like I did something wrong only getting called back to one group Sunday. I’m excited to have a chance, but still. The few girls i talked to in the process in that group seem really nice. I’d honestly never heard of that sorority nationally before and had my heart set on 2 other sororities. I’m glad to stand a chance with the one that asked me back, but still wonder if I might have a chance of COB or informal with the 2 I’d wanted to join for so many years.
