Best Friends for Never

by: Wow

I just think it’s funny how after I dropped aft we having one of the worst years of my life due to family reasons, all the girls in my org stopped talking to me and unfollowed me. Don’t be fooled, Greek life friendships are definitely on a transactional basis. But sisters for life right?

Sorry for your experience, you're better than that. That's how it goes though; granted, some connections you will make are real and genuine, but largely it's phony nonsense for self-promotion and photo ops. You'll be better off moving forward, leaning more towards individuality and making real, meaningful friendships.

Word thank you I appreciate your kind words. I just find it hilarious how fake nice and inviting they all were when you first got your bid and it’s all for you to open your purse. And where exactly does that money go to? We were online this whole year why tf am I paying a housing fee? They literally r so intoxicatingly pressuring on u to throw away ur money and if u don’t they’ll throw u instead. Anyone w self respect and a brain of their own should steer clear

I think it’s best to say NYU seriously hates Greek life and predict that it’ll soon get rid of it completely. It’s so unnecessary and every girl in it is so self absorbed and vain idk how anyone can stay in a room w them for than 20 seconds. Girl, you’ll be good wout them 😊

Think abt this: you go thru 1-2 weeks of polishing urself to seem more appealing in the eyes of these dense girls who then make decisions of if they like you based off 5 min of u really talking; then swindle you into paying a lifetime investment that can cause you serious financial damage all for a friendship. Hard pass

I dropped a while time ago but still occasionally lurk here. I kind of just stopped paying dues before formally dropping and got an email that said I was financially expelled. While obviously, you know that you have to pay your dues, I still thought it was funny the way that they sent the email saying I was expelled from the sorority with their logo/tagline at the top "[XYZ Sorority] is forever". Sidenote though not being in a sorority rocks, there are literally millions of better ways to spend your time, have fun, and make friends in NYC that aren't 95% focused on maintaining an instagram aesthetic.

sorry to hear you had a hard year. joining greek life, like going to college in general, isn't a guarantee to make friends. you're gaining access to a network and then it's up to you to nurture those relationships. think about "welcome week friends". most people don't keep those friendships up all four years, but there's value in jumping into friendships and making the most of your time when everyone is new and awkward. that's what being a new member feels like. you're kinda faking it til you make it, which takes time.
