What are the paddles for?

Exactly what it says on the box. I've heard something about paddles and I'm wondering what people are supposed to do with them and why they are still used, given the history.

Mainly for presenting assorted cheeses, meats, grapes or olives. Greek life has always had close ties to the charcuterie market

In one of my GCs last semester someone in one of the orgs mentioned getting their paddle and not knowing what to do with it. I looked it up and saw it has traditionally been associated with hazing and general violence. Don't think it's that weird to be wondering why still and what for, b4 committing to Greek Life 🤷‍♀️.
