off campus sorority

by:

What would people think of an off campus sorority that wasn’t affiliated with panhel? I have a friend at UPENN who is in OAX (an off campus sorority founded by girls of AXO) and she loves it because it’s a lot more casual but still has a tight knit group because of recruitment and stuff. idk how to even go about starting one but still

It might seem fun at first (no national rules to follow, etc.), but I think you’d feel so disconnected from the rest of Greek life. No one would acknowledge your existence, you couldn’t participate in events like Greek week, no bonding with other “OAX” sisters at other schools, no alumni. On campus sororities give you so many opportunities and are just as fun and just as close knit. Long af sorry but just my opinion

The reason why off-campus frats are still thriving at NYU is because they have the littest parties, that's just facts. sororitys don't throw parties like frats do, but they have a ton of other stuff going on on-campus, so to take all the off-campus stuff away would be pretty much eliminating all of what a sorority even does. PLUS sororities at NYU are already SO casual, they're super low-effort anyways so at that point isn't something even more casual just like... an overhyped group chat lmao

i have a close friend in an "underground" sorority at another selective private university, and it's just not worth it. they're off-campus because they got kicked off for hazing, and since then the hazing's gotten a lot worse since there's no regulations. the only way an off-campus sorority can really exist is if an established sorority gets the boot, and afterwards all they're gonna be good for is hazing and partying
