In lieu of recent events, like that at Penn State, LSU, and FSU I just want to reiterate the importance of making good decisions. It's college, everyone's going to do stupid things sometimes. There are some things that just won't change, but that doesn't mean we should play dumb when something wrong happens. Its not hard to be a decent human being... It's not hard to ask if someone needs help if it looks like they're struggling. It's not hard to make sure someone gets home safe. It's not hard to ask other people for help. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING. I hope that everyone has fun but be safe. Know your limits, know your friends' limits, and understand that you can be the person to save a life - you just need to stand up. (found this from another college's Greeklife page and thought this deserved some recognition at nyu.)

I think they meant instead of these events happening, let's do these other things to prevent them. So "in lieu" would be correct.
