rush results
by: RushieIs rush going to feel somewhat the way it is at traditional colleges? I'm really excited but part of me is scared I'm going to be really disappointed with the system (not trying to be mean or ungrateful) i just don't want to get my hopes up. I know the rush process itself is tiring but like the end results do majority of people get really hyped/or are they left crying or unexcited?

It's 50/50. Although nyu isn't a Greek heavy school (only 1% if that is part of Greek life), interest has grown over the last couple years and there aren't enough orgs to accommodate everyone. Half the people who rush will get dropped / won't receive a bid so yes, there are a lot of tears. However, don't let this stop you from rushing. Yes it's a little competitive but don't forget there's also a 50% chance you'll get a bid. It all depends on how you present yourself. Don't be fake or inauthentic and don't think you're too good to join a certain org / set your sights on only a couple. If you act yourself and give every sorority a chance, you should be fine.

^ typically the only girls who are dissatisfied or drop early while still having bids / invites from other orgs are the ones who wanted a certain sorority (aka dphie, zta, or aephi) and when they got dropped by those, they decided to drop out all together. for the most part, all pnms who get bids usually end up happy even if they're a bit disappointed at first. if you're REALLY that unhappy with the sorority you pick, you can drop out any time BEFORE you become an initiated sister since there's a 6 week period before pnms are actually initiated by their sorority. but overall yes, most girls who had an open mind and good attitude eventually end up satisfied and happy.

honestly, the greek life system here is what you make of it. There are only 7 panhellenic sororities so tiers don't mean that much. If you go into recruitment with an open mind and for the right reasons, you'll end up where you're supposed to. From what I've seen, usually people are pretty excited on bid day (except for those who only wanted a particular one and didn't get it). Bid day is like what it would be at any other school; tons of cute pics, meeting your new sisters, etc. e

honestly it depends on how insecure of a person you are. be honest with yourself, and if you don't get into one of the ones you want and you feel like you'll feel bad seeing those girls get invited to more parties or whatever it is, then drop and either rush again or find another group to join on campus.
I know girls in kappa who, by the way they feel about it, you would think it was the undisputed top house. I also know girls in dg who gripe about it endlessly. It all depends on what your focus and what your priorities are. If you're the type of girl who's trolling greekrank to see who's the most popular and you get in bottom house it might not be for you, but it's all up to the individual so just rush and see.

But are the girls who do get a bid typically really hyped about the sorority they got? Do a lot of girls wind up dropping or is the retention rate pretty constant all throughout
