npc sorority cost @ nyu
by: HowdyCan someone please provide a relatively detailed explanation of the costs of being in a sorority at NYU? Estimates are fine but I don't think they are as high as what my friends are paying at other schools but don't know for sure. I know there are new member fees & monthly (or semesterly?) dues, but what else is there? My friends in sororities at big schools in the south pay quite a lot, but they have houses and everything is included in their monthly bills (including dues, all the t shirts, mixers, etc.) so they don't have unexpected out of pocket expenses. I'm trying to convince my parents that being in a sorority at NYU won't be an extreme financial burden on top of the already insane cost of attendance. Thanks in advance!

even with the more "expensive" dues at nyu, it's still not nearly as much as a southern state school simply because we don't have huge houses or mansions to pay for. it depends on the organization but typically I think that you pay the highest dues when you first join and it goes down from there. but yeah the highest I've heard is $800 (and that's just kappa)

You'll see in the PowerPoint they give you during orientation and yes kappa has he highest for new member dues but long term it is actually the cheapest (not by a lot only like $100/$200) Kappa pays $800 for first semester (and you can do a long term payment plan if you can't pay that up front) and then $300 every semester after that. Other orgs don't drop that much but long term they all equal out to costing about the same. also kappa is one of the only sororities that doesn't make you pay dues when you go abroad. I know my friend in aephi had to. That's bc they pay national dues each semester whereas kappa pays for national dues first semester which is why it's so expensive that semester. Overall they're all about the same so don't focus on not picking or picking a house because of the cost. Treasurers in each organization are really nice and accommodating so payment plans and alternate statuss are a thing; they're not going to immediately kick you out or haze you

Kappa is the highest. Other big national names will be slightly higher as well. National no-names (dphie, aephi, ast) are the lowest.
