no bad sororitys at nyu?

I'm a transfer from a southern state school. I did some social media stalking and it feels like all houses are really good? Is social media deceiving?
I'm not talking about which house is top or bottom I can read gr just fine but even the bottom houses seem to have attractive girls and social lives? Is this true?
Do bottom houses get shunned and do top frats mix exclusively with top sororitys? Greek life seems confusing and this website is dead so I'd appreciate some info on how it's different from the south!
Also, how important are recs?

It doesn't consume your whole life like it would in the south. It's mostly just for the social life, and everyone's pretty much friends with everyone.
That being said the bottom houses have a lot of unattractive and/or very overweight girls who they hide from social media. That becomes a problem for frats when they have mixers and it isn't just the 15 girls from the tumblr or ig, it's the whole house.

50% of girls who rush don't get a bid at all, so even the bottom sororities are a bit selective, but mostly girls who get dropped are girls who think they're too good for bottom sororities and end up getting dropped from both the bottom and top sororities. Long story short Nyu's Greek life is small compared to the overall population, so that's why the bottom houses are a combo of girls who look hot enough to be in top houses (there just isn't enough space in them) and girls who are landwhales (girls who weren't arrogant at rush).
All houses except kappa and dg mix.

Unfortunately yes, last year around 800 rushed and about 400 received a bid. You won't just be left standing alone if you aren't invited back to any houses though, your rho gamma will call you the night before.

I have a good friend at a southern state school and I can tell you that the greek life system at nyu is very different compared to the south. It's not competitive in that a ton of students rush, it's that the number of students interested in joining as grown dramatically and there aren't enough organizations to accommodate that. Also, the amount of girls in each pledge class and amount of girls in each chapters a whole are much lower than a southern state school. With only 7 Panhellenic organizations on campus, it's impossible for all 800 or so who rush to get a bid. Hopefully, as the interest in greek life at nyu continues to grow, there will be more expansion.

So yeah the top three frats will pretty much mix with the top four sororitys (some more than others). It's nyc so girls who are in bottom houses and either don't mix or mix with the bottom frats still can go clubbing
