sorority costs per semester?

by: K

hi everyone! i'm an incoming junior at steinhardt (deferred admission for a year.) i'm super stoked and grateful to start in the fall, as i've wanted to attend nyu for a v long time.

i'd love to join a sorority (preferably a top one, but we'll see) but am a little worried about costs per semester. i heard most girls pay $400-$600/semester, but does that include other costs like formal tickets, big/little gifts, t-shirts and more? what does the $$ breakdown look like all things considered?

different for every sorority, odds are if you join a sorority you're going to need to spend a good amount of money regardless of which one you're in. and why don't you keep an open mind during rush since you are a junior and "top sororities" can be more selective. Being in a "top sorority" shouldn't be your priority.

Still, can someone provide a breakdown of costs in general (e.g. dues, new member fees, socials)? Are dues monthly or by semester? I'm not in the same boat as the OG (not a junior), but recruitment is something I'm interested in pursuing in the fall but I need more info to budget (I'm definitely keeping an open mind, and of course keeping in mind that getting a bid is not guaranteed).

its by semester, but the first semester is more expensive than the following because of initiation fees. i think tho after that its like around $300 a semester its not that bad

Totally depends on the sorority. KKG's are the highest I believe ($500) and ZTA are $400. I think you Phi's are around the same. AST's are lower like $300 or something. KKG ZTA PIPHI have less additional payments because their dues are higher and cover more things like formals and free stuff lol. ANd honestly idk about aephi and dphie and dg but it should be anywhere from $300-$500 and additional costs depending on how much the dues cover

After first semester new member period, Kappa's dues go down to $300 per semester as an active.
