zta/pi phi/kappa tips?

by:

So I signed up for fall recruitment and I'm really trying to keep an open mind, but I am leaning towards these three just from girls I already know (ZTA as top choice). Does anyone know what Pi Phi, ZTA, or Kappa look for specifically? Besides like "be yourself" stuff. Does being a sophomore affect any of these sorority's decisions? Like I said I'll keep an open mind, I just wanna know what to expect.

My main advice would just to be relax for the next few months. Just take this time to think about what you want in a chapter, maybe buy some nice formal-ish clothes to look cute, and just rest up and get excited. The thing with sorority selection is its hard to give specific tips: its kind of just a vibe/connection thing. If you seem excited, are nice and attentive, and look cute, you'll have a good chance of getting your top pick. Also, I know girls in all of those chapters that rushed as sophomores, so don't worry about that. Just be confident and enthusiastic. You'll be fine--don't worry!

ZTA usually tries to take mostly freshmen but since this is NYU and most PNMs are sophomores, they usually do take sophomores! I've heard ZTA is pressured by nationals to take mostly freshmen but again, I have a lot of friends who went ZTA as sophomores. They just definitely take less upperclassmen than the other sororities. I'd say Pi Phi and Kappa are more open to taking sophomores considering they aren't being pressured by nationals. And honestly, recruitment can start to feel like hell but stick it out! Try to make yourself memorable (cool hobbies, aspirations, etc) and just see who you connect with during rounds.

Yeah some sororities are pressured by nationals to take mostly freshmen (I think just ZTA?) and others prefer to freshmen because they're more excited to get involved and will be involved for, well, longer. So my advice to you would be to compensate by acting like you're really excited to get involved. Philanthropy, PR, just pick a passion and really stress how you want to help and make an impact on the sorority.

Something that is really helpful is to make sure you are also asking the girls in the room questions about themselves, and not just letting you answer the questions they ask you. That's how more meaningful conversations happen and allow you to actually find your new home. I would also say being kind-hearted, polite, well-dressed (I.e. Wearing something that you feel super confident in, not what you think they want you to wear) and genuinely interested in meeting the girls in each org. That's the way to go for those 3 sororities!
