Actually only some of them are. I know gamma phi calls itself a sorority and probably a few others do too if they were founded after the word was created. The older sororities (adpi, phi mu...) call themselves "women's fraternities"

If they were in part founded by a man or if they had a male member at anytime they are considered fraternities because that is the proper term

My sorority is technically a fraternity and it was founded by all women. However, it is so old that the word "sorority" hadn't even been invented yet, so it's "officially" a fraternity.

And mine wasn't founded with the help of a guy and it was founded after the word was created but our founders thought calling ourselves a fraternity would give us more respect in the male-dominated collegiate system of the late 1800s
