getting our lists
by: Help pleaseI'm a little confused about our lists we get and was hoping someone could explain this to me. My whole friend group and most the girls in my rho gamma group got cut by Alpha Phi. A good amount also got cut from Theta and DG. We're all pretty cool and attractive so I don't really understand. But we almost all got asked back to the same places. How is that possible? I don't understand why Alpha Phi and other top sororities get to cut so much because my rho gamma said that in the end all the sororities have about the same size pledge classes. So if the top ones will have the same size class as the bottom ones why do they get to cut more?

It's all based on return rates. Some sororities tend to have girls always rank them in their top choices, so there's no problem when they cut a lot of PNMs because they're pretty sure they'll have a large amount coming back to them. Some of the more in-demand sororities only have to invite 25-30% of PNMs back because there's little to no chance that a ton of PNMs are going to drop them. On the other hand, there are sororities which have a higher tendency to be ranked on the bottom by a large number of PNMs, therefore they have to invite a lot of girls back because their return rates are lower.
TL;DR Some sororities can be more selective because they're more popular with PNMs and don't have to worry about return rates.

There are formulas used to determine what percentage of girls a sorority can drop. It is based on return rates from previous years. It is used so that pnms are not "led" on by sororities and give other sororities the opportunity to fill their pledge classes. It benefits both the sororities and the pnm
