trying to see where i'd fit in
by: FreshmanI am thinking about rushing next semester and I have no idea where I would fit in. I am a big sports fan, dress sort of well but not over the top, I don't smoke or anything but I don't care if I'm around it. Just want a frat that throws good parties and has a good rep but isn't stuck up or anything. Don't really care about hazing that much but would rather it not be anything overly extreme.

The key to rush is to talk to as many of the brothers as possible. This does a couple of things. First, you need to know if you actually like most of the guys in the house. You will be hanging with these guys for at least 4 years and beyond once you join a house. Second, you need to realize how rush works. They are going to be voting on you for you to get a bid. The more people that know you the more people that can advocate for you when the vote is held. At this point in the year, you should have a pretty good idea of which houses that you want to target. If not, you should have a plan on where you want to spend your time at Rush. Don't worry about the the rankings and the reputation. Pick where you fit in. Reputation and Rankings will matter less as you go through your Miami career. Don't stress and be yourself.
Also, if you don't get a bid. Winter Rush is not the end of the world. There is always spring rush, fraternity colonizing/recolonizing, and unrecognized fraternities etc. Or you can have a great time at Miami even if you don't go greek. I did not go through winter rush and did not really want to go Greek. You can tell the reasons why on how people act on this site. However, I joined a smaller hungrier organization that turned out pretty well in the end.
