Phi sigma membership?
by: ??why does phi sig have such low membership? is it due to low retention rates? i saw they didn’t take many in last years PC either. are they just a small chapter?

There are two big things that affect numbers: recruitment and retention. Some chapters are better at formal recruitment and take a large number of girls each year. DG Kappa and GPhi took the most girls over the last three years during formal recruitment.
Retention is keeping the girls you get. You’ve seen the chapter numbers so you know who is at the top, but it’s not Kappa and GPhi. When you start comparing recruitment numbers and membership DZ and Theta have great retention for strong recruiting chapters, but AOII and ChiO also have strong member retention even though they are weaker recruiting chapters. That means even though they are smaller, once a girl joins she is less likely to drop.
PhiSig is relatively less established than the other chapters at Miami, so they don’t recruit as well. The problem is that they also have a lot of drops.

Chapter total is not just the number retained. Chapters like DZ have totals that include their retention PLUS all their INFORMAL BIDS. Delta Zeta historically has a lot of girls drop, or leave Miami, they don't typically have the quality girls that Theta has and the girls in Theta, even bullied within their own chapter, still don't drop.
Theta is not allowed to give any INFORMAL BIDS EVER AT MIAMI. Their chapter total is true retention.
But Delta Zeta gives them out to fill their chapter pretty much to anyone every fall before chapter total is due to make it look full.
Please understand the difference.
