that number is not set until after recruitment starts and is called quota. quota is basically the number of women who get through pref night divided by the number of chapters participating in formal rush.

one more thing about recruitment ... it is a ranking game. think of it as high ranking and low ranking.

if you high rank alpha and alpha high ranks you, then you will go to alpha's recruitment party.

if you low rank beta and beta low ranks you, you will not go to beta's recruitment party.

if you high rank gamma and gamma low ranks you, you will not go to gamma's recruitment party.

if you low rank delta and delta high ranks you, you will go to delta's recruitment party if a chapter you high ranked low ranked you.

almost every woman going through recruitment will attend at least one recrutment party of a chapter they low ranked.

also know that each chapter is ranking based on different criteria. some sororities want members to be involved in other activities, others want members who will make the sorority their only priority. there are some chapters that look for "a type" and others intentionally want diversity in looks and personality.

it is a crazy stressful process, but ultimately, if you are true to yourself, you will match with a sorority that you can call home!

so about the earlier comment: you can’t necessarily low rank a chapter here. you can drop them or move onto the next round with them. it doesn’t matter what order you put them in. it is possible to drop one and still be asked back and keep one and get dropped, it happens all the time. chapters are ranking you on different criteria

It depends how many girls actually complete their MRABA (Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement).

Say we start with 1100 girls at the beginning of recruitment.
200 drop before pref because they thought they deserved better.
We now have 900. For ease, let's say they all go to pref, but 50 didn't like their choice(s), so they don't fill out the MRABA.
850 actually fill out their MRABA after pref (this is a binding agreement that you will accept whatever you get on bid day even if it's your second choice)
A simple explanation, basically these girls will get their first or second choice and the system does it's best job to match as many as possible. The only way you wouldn't get a bid is if you suicide. So we have 16 strong chapters right now and I don't think Pi Phi will do formal recruitment, they will do something informal after formal is over. They just can't compete when there isn't an established chapter really.
This is a rough number but in this scenario each chapter will likely get around 53 but this also includes like 5-6 sophomores, so maybe 48 freshman per chapter, but it's not even, some have more and some have less, but it's usually pretty close.
