big 6
by: HmmWhy is everyone so pissy about the title of the big 6? It's always been there, it's nothing new, but now there's just a name for it. Like the top tier has always been considered theta, DG, Pi phi, alpha phi, AXO and dz. People just seem to really hate the name and idk why

first of all, those sororities have not always been considered top. Like if you ask my older sister or mom who went here, they would not have said those were always the best sororities. just because they've been the top since you've gone here does not mean there's some long standing tradition of a "big six" like at some SEC school you're trying way too hard to imitate

not true, A Phi has made huge improvements in recent years. They didn't used to be "Top"

I think the reason people are so against the title of the big 6 is because it makes people feel like those sororities are the only ones that matter and the rest do not have a chance of competing. And again people do get jealous and mean like the girl above. Miami does not try to imitate some SEC school that's so random and pointless. It's always been a thing and everyone knows those are the ones girls aim for during rush, just nobody has actually put a title on it. Doesn't mean it's not there. Yes it is very shallow and I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying it is what it is.

Posts that that break down the Greek community bond earn controversial critism. One Greek community supporting each other and not saying things that injure other chapters. It's time to mature the discussions that lift up and inspire every chapter to do great things. A community is about diversity not about classes. Too many people confuse a tier which is a structure of the chapters beliefs and values versus the structure of behavior. There are many people in this fake big6 name who are po because some do not want to be part of an mirage. Can we keep it classy please this is Miami almost ivy league.

I agree with this. Some of the girls who are considered part of this group even hate that name. I personally don't like it just because it seperates them from the rest of the Greek community. We all matter, regardless of "tiers." Every chapter in Miami's Greek community help to make it stronger.

@ok - none of the chapters listed were ones I "aimed for during rush" with the exception of AXO because a girl reached out to me during Fall semester. I agree that if we're gonna say the Big 6 are the most "popular girls" that that's accurate, but not everyone wants to join them after talking with them for a bit.
Not that there's anything wrong with them, I'm just saying it's not a given that every pnm wants to be in these 6 sororities first and foremost.

I didn't mean that every girl wants to join them, I just meant that some girls go in to rush just based on that "top" reputation thinking that they want to be on one of those without knowing anything about any others. Then they rush and ultimately find the place they like the best and feel the most comfortable. It was not meant to sound like that by any means! And I agree, I'm in one of the 6 and honestly I could be as happy or happier in either of my other two that are not. It's really overrated

Don't say "everyone wants to be in one of them" -- that's just untrue. If you go through rush and end up wanting to be in one of what you call the 'big six' because you think you fit in and can see yourself flourishing in them then that's awesome! But if you want to join one so you can say you're in a 'big six' sorority then that's pathetic and you're stuck in a middle school mindset.

not everyone wants to be in them. some people dont want all the fake mega ego girl drama. way too much esxply in piphi and dz. so there is my truth. girls be acting like old skool paris and nicole they saw in the 8th grade. rest of us all giggle and think they clueless.

I went to the sprite dates for some of the "Big 6." Still have my notes I made from them. I said that one didn't even look worth going to. At one the girls seemed talkative, but like they were just rattling off a list of questions they were told to ask and didn't have personalities. At all. And for another one, I said the girls didn't seem welcoming at all and they were pushy and rude.
I also remember putting one of the "Big 6" as my next to last one I wanted to go back to during recruitment, so I wasn't upset in the slightest about "being cut" from them, because I didn't want to go back.
So no. It's not hilariously untrue. I couldn't be happier with my "middle tier" sorority.
