sorority recruitment as a sophomore
by: SophomoreI'm thinking of rushing next year as a sophomore and was wondering which sororities might be willing to take me since I won't be a freshman. I know the top tiers are probably out of the question but what are some possible options?

I wouldn't say that! I know sophomores who have gotten into DG, Pi Phi, Alpha Phi, and AXO. I'm in one of those four and there were 3 or 4 sophomores in my pledge class, as well as two in the one we just took. They definitely don't take many but usually a couple! DZ and Theta have probably taken some too, I just know girls personally who have gotten into those four as sophomores. There are also great options elsewhere. I know Gamma Phi takes a lot of sophomores and all of my friends in there absolutely love it and are some of the sweetest girls you'll ever meet. Being a sophomore really isn't as much as a disadvantage as everyone makes it out to be.

All sororities take sophomores, including the "big 6"! People don't take a lot, but there are also not a lot of sophomores that rush. I've seen a lot of girls asking this question so for anyone wondering, you'll be totally fine. The only time being a sophomore comes in to play is if you dropped rush last year, then people will wonder why. If you just didn't know if Greek life was for you or were sick or something, nobody will think twice about it!

top tiers are not out of the question! the world is your oyster.
if you are a put together, friendly girl with decent grades (2.9ish or higher) you have a chance with everyone. Really work on your grades and your friendships with people you already like and you will be just fine :) Don't try to overcompensate (I had girls who the only thing I talked about during rush with them was that they were a sophomore - like I get it, move on, tell me about your interests). You don't have to bring your age up unless someone asks.
Best of luck with recruitment and hope to see you at Grillin' With the Greeks and Sprite Dates!! :)

I don't know exactly how the rec letters factor in since I'm not our recruitment chair but I think they can help you, most especially if you have a rec from a woman who was in that particular chapter of the sorority (i.e. the Miami chapter of XYZ Sorority). Don't stress too much about it.

Everyone takes a few if not more than a few, even the top tiers. That's what I was trying to say
