by: RushAll of you who went through rush a couple months ago, was it easy to immediately tell where you fit? Everyone says you'll know pretty fast but I find that hard to believe because there are several great ones. Were any of you torn and what were your top 3?

Usually they choose for you (by cutting you). Going into the third round I had a top 5, but by pref round I only had to choose between my top two and didn't really like my third choice. You have to remember that they didn't cut you because they didn't like you, but because they don't see you fitting into their sorority. I am very happy where I ended up! I know the whole "trust the system" is very cliche, but it's seriously true.

There are sororities that stood out immediately in my mind, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they were the ones that were there during pref round for me. Part of it is seeing where you fit, part of it is the girl's opinions on whether you will fit with them.
A lot of girls also don't know exactly where they want to end up until later in the process, like pref round.

That's not necessarily true. Yes the first few rounds the sororities cut pretty heavily (or at least mine did) but when it comes to third round and pref we're the ones trying to impress you so 1) we're not one of the ones you cut to go from 7 to 3 and 2) so that you pref us because we're done voting

The one thing that I think Panhel needs to emphasize more is that PNMs have way less of say in rush than the houses. Yes, some PNMs get lucky and go through rush basically hand picking which ones they go back to- but at the end of the day, they get to choose because all of those houses wanted them first. Houses come up with lists of who they want back. They don't have to rank like PNMs do, they just list who they want and don't (until after preference round).
Even if you have a great rush, you will to some extent be at the mercy of the system. You will (almost definitely) get cut from one house you like. It's not because there is anything wrong with you. They have to make a certain percentage cuts and they had other girls they thought fit in with their sorority better.
As far as asking what 3 houses girls went to for pref, I promise that's borderline useless information. It makes sense for individual girls (like i can look at my friends and understand why they all went to the three they went to) but it's not standard across the board. Pref round is really emotional because it's basically the sorority trying to get you to choose them-- some advice i can give you for pref is to MAKE SURE THEY KNOW YOU ARE INTERESTED. Don't act like you are conflicted between two houses, if you want to be their sister, act like it.
