Maybe it’s because I’m from Chicago, but why does everyone at this school say “y’all”? I feel like I go to school in the Deep South instead of Ohio

Y’all is a contraction for you all. It stands for you all in the English dictionary someone saying y’all doesn’t make you a southerner

Yeah, we all know that, thanks for the grammar lesson. But it’s much more common to hear “you guys” in the Midwest. Kind of like pop and soda, it means the same thing and depends on region. Ohio is considered Midwest so it’s actually a decent assumption. Does it mean this person needed to be judgmental about it? No.
