sorority houses
by: AccurateI've heard from some people that there is trust that has barred sorority house building here at Miami and that the money is running out (along with pressure from the university to expand off campus housing due to enrollment expansion). Is this the case, and if so does this mean houses will be built anytime soon?

Can you give a source or something like that? I've never heard of a trust that's kept sororities from living off campus, just a town sanction saying houses with more than 15 girls in them are considered brothels. If that's true that would be great for Miami Greek life

Sororities weren't banned from houses and the brothel things a myth. There was a significant donation a long time ago that created the sorority suites and that's the way they went. Now there's nowhere for sororities to buy property to build. There's not even any land for fraternities to feasibly build new because buying several rental houses to demolish would cost too much. Its a shame because Miami is def lacking in top notch greek housing compared to other schools

Another problem is that Oxford literally has no room. The way the lots are cut up now, sororities would not be allowed to have a huge house. That was a problem with the Fiji house, if they torn it down Oxford would have to shrink the lot size to get a permit to build a new house because the lot sizes are way smaller now than they were when the house was build. So even if we did get houses, they would not be extravagant.

not having houses for sororities is actually not a bad deal.... Joining greek life here is so cheap in comparison to schools with houses. Plus, houses means house moms, and that means more rules for girls living in the houses. Miami sororities are given a lot of freedom and I highly doubt everyone would be willing to give it up for what would end up being an extremely tiny sorority house in an awkward location.
