rush is a waste of time.

Serious here. All bids are given to kids who are known ahead of time/are on the fraternity lists/those who know other kids from sports/high school, etc.
I have not heard or know anyone who got a bid after never being to the house/not knowing anyone but showing up to rush.
Public Service Announcement to freshman/sophomores looking to rush: Unless you know the kids from the fraternity rush ahead of time (i.e. kids from high school, been to multiple parties and they want you, you know you're on the list, etc.) don't bother showing up to rush. You will not get a bid.

I come on this site occasionally to check it out but I have never made a post until now. I couldn't disagree more with this post. Kids come by all the time during rush who the fraternity doesn't know and they get in. My freshman year I was one of those kids. Although it kinda sucks, the rush process works and if you want a certain fraternity go for it.
Good luck to all the freshman out there and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Don't agree. I know of a freshman who just transferred to MU mid-year, he set foot on campus as a student for the first time last week, signed up for rush but had no connections at all, went through rush, and just got a bid to a top house because he came in and met guys and they liked him. So the idea that everything is prearranged and rush is meaningless isn't always true.
