quota is based on the entire chapter's numbers now, not just the pledge class size from formal recruitment. with that being said, chapters that do not have 230 girls including their new pledge classes will be doing informal recruitment.
however, informal is usually invite only, meaning you have to have a friend in that chapter recommend you to be considered.

If quota was so low this year and is based off total house size, WHY in the world were so many girls dropped or left with houses they did not connect with? I heard that hundreds of girls got their hearts broken.
I obviously don't understand the system. Honestly, can someone PLEASE break it down and explain it here?

you have to maximize your options (aka rank every house you attended in pref whether its 1 or 3) to be guaranteed a bid. according to the cliff office stats, 98% of girls were matched with a bid. if they chose to reject it, that's their own decision.
and yes, i'm sure hundreds of girls got their hearts broken. unfortunately not all 1,000 girls that go through can get a bid to alpha phi or whatever top house they wanted. the system is designed to give as many girls a bid as possible and give every chapter a relatively same sized pledge class.

Talk to your sisters they know the score. This post #7 appears everywhere after formal recruitment. Ignore it. Just attempting to stir up dust, as in all pnms should get to join any house they want to not just the ones that invite them. Equals less tears and less women not getting the house of their personal choice and more entitled millennial thumb sucking pnms thanking mommy for posting here that their hearts are broken. THAT'S the true breakdown, @why.

Panhellenic sets quota as the MEDIAN chapter size, meaning that after rush this semester half of the chapters on campus are below total and half of them are at or above total. So technically half of the chapters should be doing informal because they're below total but that doesn't mean that they actually will. Some chapters don't care that they're under total and some chapters nationals will require them to do informal so that they can reach total.
