social probation
by: ??I've heard the term social probation in context of a couple different sororities. Is this something i should take into account when choosing a sorority? or is it not a big deal?

social probation or not, for years almost every sorority has been on and off social probation and have had socials, date parties, etc. it's really not a big deal to be on it. Choose a sorority that you feel comfortable in. For me, I would much rather join a sisterhood that I love and have a great time with them my next three years than choose a sorority I didn't feel like I belonged in or did not like as much because you chose them over the one you wanted due to a semester of social probation

I don't think you should make a choice based on whether or not a sorority is on probation. You have to think about the fact that it's only 1 semester (most probations are 1 semester) out of the 7 you would be a member. If you really like a sorority and think you fit in there best don't worry about it

def not a huge deal. my sorority has been on social probation nearly every semester i've been in it and we still have formals, date parties, etc. we can sometimes only have 2 date parties a semester, but that's pretty normal anyways. socials can be limited/underground, so you don't even know you're on probation. honestly not a big deal at all! and a lot of times a sorority can be on probation with their nationals but not with the university, so panhel can be a little more lenient.

I am SHOCKED that members of a sorority that share a sisterhood have such little regard for their standing in the community, in the college, and within Panhellenic. Really? Do we not have any more respect for ourselves?
If one is placed on probation it is punishment for breaking a rule or for an infraction of set standards.
"No big deal at all".... WHY is this mentality ok?
Wear your white, cry on pref nights, throw what you know - but in reality many liken membership in a sorority to a free bar pass. Sad

Hey @LOL, I'm laughing too, at you. I'm not the shocked author but I'm often on the computer and this site at 2:30am and I have a life. My schedule dictates that I am up late and often into early morning hours. Same could be said as to why you are on this site at 7:44am.

. Social probabtion is literally just a semester long title. Sororities still have underground's, date parties, etc. and it depends on what type of their nationals gave them! Many sororities go on probation are still allowed to have formals etc. furthermore, sororities on social probation still get asked to/go to fraternity events all of the time and are 100% allowed to go to those. And for on campus involvement, they still participate in philanthropies and other events. So stop trying to scare PNMs away from sisterhoods that they could feel at home in because you feel the need to make it seem like a bigger deal than it is
