legacy?

by: pnm

My mom was a theta so I thought I was at least supposed to make it to philanthropy but I got cut after welcome round. Why did that happen?

It varies by sorority but usually a legacy makes it through the first round. A legacy is never guaranteed a bid but that seems a little harsh imo.

Legacies basically don't matter here it comes down to more than that

I thought most sororities keep legacies through this round but I think I would be happy because it opened your schedule for another house that is obviously a better fit.

Was your mom a theta at Miami or somewhere else?

I know some sororitys cut legacies early if they know beyond a doubt that the girl isn't a good fit. They do it so they don't get their hopes up. Honestly I think it is rude but imho theta is rude generally

Oh okay thank you! Yeah it probably wouldn't have been a good fit I was just surprised I didn't get invited back for at least one round

No problem. Each sorority has different rules on legacies and I know it's hard. Keep your chin up and keep an open mind :) It all works out!

There are many sororities that if a pnm goes to pref they are required to put them on their first bid list so that if the pnm ranks them first they will be a pledge to that chapter. Theta is one of these and maybe dg too.

Which sororities guarantee being on the first list if you make it to pref as a legacy?

A legacy is a sister mother grandmother and maybe stepmother. Aunts cousins etc do NOT count. Also some sororities could almost fill their pledge class with
Legacies so they will and do get cut
