transfer rushing

by:

I'm thinking of transferring to Clemson as a junior. In terms of my class standing, would I have any chance at getting into a half way decent fraternity or do the frats only and always take freshman exclusively? I don't know anyone who goes to school here, so I'd have no recommendations. I'm also from the north, which according to this site apparently seems like it matters. Also if I rushed at my current school- would my membership carry over to Clemson?

It is harder for juniors to get bids, but it's not impossible. The ones that do tend to have really good grades, are prominent, or excel in something that adds to the chapter. But with talking to some guys in fraternities here they'd be willing to give a junior a bid if he's a cool guy. However, if I were you I wouldn't rush at your current school just because you're transferring. That'll just create a lot of problems. Chapters generally have a vote for transfers to see if they want you at their chapter. & in all honesty they could decide not to let you in because they don't like you or they just don't want you in. Not only that you may not even like the guys yourself. I would recommend you waiting to rush when you get here & find the place that's best for you.

I personally know two juniors who got bids to an upper middle (some consider top) house and one was a transfer. It's hard because you likely won't know anyone coming in but if they like you, they should take you.
