rushing twice?

by:

in all honesty, would rushing for a second time as a sophomore lower my chances drastically of getting another bid? i received a bid this year and the girls are sweet, but i don't think it's the right fit for me overall and i don't want to commit myself to something for four years if i don't love it!
anyways, would this hurt me for next fall? should i just not do it? or if i did, how awkward would it be to see my present sorority again?

Only girl I know who took her bid, dropped, and rushed again ended up not only not getting her original sorority back but almost every other sorority dropped her. They'll see you as uncommitted, and probably snobby. Also it's been a week so saying you "don't think it's the right fit" is the equivalent of saying you think you're better than these girls

Completely agree. You dropped the sorority because you wanted a top tier and they obviously didn't like you and you got dropped from the one you wanted. So you think you're better than the sorority that gave you a bid. Instead of being superficial you should've stuck with them. You probably wouldve loved them because most do in the long run.

The two posts above are spot on. I mean, you can't really say that it wasn't a good fit for you if you didn't give them a real chance. The actives in that house liked you enough to extend you a bid, and you turned your nose up to it. The fact is, you denied yourself to be a part of Clemson's amazing Greek Life, or for at least a year if you decide to go through recruitment again next fall.

And yes, it will be awkward.

you might as well stay with it for a little longer, since you're bound to that chapter for a year anyways. and yes, if we hear that you dropped and that you're rushing again we probably won't think of that so well. dropping out of rush and dropping a chapter are two very different things.

I probably should've clarified. I am giving it a try and haven't dropped the bid yet. I'm making an effort to really get to know the girls and be involved during pledge round. I was just saying if I end up not liking them then is it worth trying again? Obviously not from what I'm reading. Thank's for the honesty.

You have the entire time up until initiation to decide if you want to commit. Definitely stick with it a little longer. Go to functions and sisterhood events. Sometimes it can take time to make friends and connections. If by initiation you still aren't feeling it then you can drop.

I've actually talked to some sorority girls who say rushing twice wouldn't hurt your chances. So yeah if you give it a try and don't feel at home, I don't see what rushing again would hurt.

Panhellenic rules state that if you decline a bid then you have to wait A YEAR to rush again. Which means you would have to wait till junior year. Which is nearly impossible to rush then. And other sororities will know you dropped from a chapter. You should've dropped out of rush or only out the ones you REALLY wanted in your preference. Then possibly rushing in the spring would've been an option. Sorry, I wouldn't. Your choices now are to stay with what you have or not be in one at all...

I'm in a top tier sorority and last year we had a girl drop before initiation and rerush as a sophomore and she got dropped by every single sorority after 1st round.
so don't drop unless it's right before initiation and you're positive you don't want to be stuck with them for life. give it a few more weeks
