Disproportionate Frat Chapters to Sorority Chapters
by: CuriouscatOf the 30% overall student population that is involved in Greek like 36% are females and 19% are males. There are 23 Fraternity chapters on campus and 13 sorority chapters on campus. The math ain’t matching on this. How are there more frats to sororities? A good problem to have versus the reverse that most Midwest big10 schools and other southern sec schools are starting to face.

US Frats started and proliferated at regular state and private colleges during 1820s and 1830s. US Sororities began more slowly, with only 2 at one small private women's school in the 1850s, one at a tiny private school in 1867 then none until 1870. Women had also barely been admitted to ANY larger universities by 1870.
There are currently more than double the # of USA frats to sororities. It is currently true most chapters of frats have smaller membership numbers than sororities.

Echoing this. Sororities cooperate together under NPC rules for recruitment, chapter membership totals, new chapter extensions, housing, etc. Makes all the sororities better together and gives prospective members their best chance for membership. Alum support is strong too.
