Sorority Ranks by Vibe

by:

ALL of the houses here have something to offer, but the ones that MOST PNMs tend to want are (in alphabetical order) ADPi, AXO, XO, DDD, KD, KKG, ZTA.

Within those top 7, there are two very different vibes and most PNMs tend to prefer one or the other:

GROUP ONE
ADPi, DDD, and KD: These primarily take and appeal to in state girls. They all have a mix of girls, but the overall vibe is more traditional Deep South, conservative, and religious. They are more likely to recruit friend groups from local (SC) high schools. Within these three, most people would say the rank is ADPi, then DDD, then KD.

GROUP 2
AXO, XO, KKG, and ZTA: These chapters are known to take more Northern/Out of state girls than Group One. Their overall vibe and reputation is fun, social, partiers. Within this group, most people would say the rank is ZTA/KKG, then AXO, then XO.

The top/mid/lower tiers within these two groups are pretty much equivalent, just very different vibes, and most PNMs prefer one of these tracks over the other. Both groups have a mix of girls, but the OVERALL vibe and reputation are pretty consistent.

The other sororities tend to kind of split the middle as they get a mix of girls who didn't find their home in any of those 7.

this is actually a good description of the mindset at cu. oos students should read this before they commit. imo you can’t really trust the rankings because so often I meet someone who presents totally well and assume they are a “top” house and I find out they aren’t. btw religious/conservative people are not exclusive to sc.

I found these groupings to be pretty true when it came to where I felt like I fit in best and where i thought the girls seemed great but I just didn't see myself there. I definitely clicked better with the houses in one of those two groups than the other and both houses i preffed were from the same group.

You can be liberal, religious and from the south as well.
The “south” is much larger than just the state of “South Carolina”

Anyone can be of any political or religious persuasion and from the South or OOS, but I think it's pretty accurate that overall, the vibe of the sororities that favor in state girls does tend to be MORE religious and MORE conservative.

They are definitely more conservative. But being “sincere” in your faith is different from putting bible quotes in your IG bio while mistreating or demeaning others under the guise of “being religious”.

Group 1 definitely seems to keep to themselves more, don’t socialize much with other sororities. Group 2 socializes with lots of different sororities. Just an observation.

northern srats never identify as “northern” and separate themselves nor would they geographically discriminate.

Most all the sororities referred to as “northern” really need to be referred to as just “OOS” because they are also the ones that have the most girls from out west and CA.

by: Scarlet

srats at universities located in the north would never identify as “northern” or “in state only/mostly” nor would they separate themselves and geographically discriminate. that is true for srats located in california as well. agree with your comment. the point is OOS pnms do not really have a shot at 3 of 13 sororities that doesn’t seem fair. that’s over 20 percent.

OOS pnms usually find out about the separate but equal "northern vs southern" sorority system here once they arrive, and then it's too late to reconsider schools. the srats listed in group one are only a chapter of a national sorority. if legacies are wrong then so are SC HS friend preferences.

there are oos people in kd, tri delt and adpi. maybe not a majority but i wouldn't say you have no shot at these three sororities if you're oos

I have never met someone oos that wanted to only rush the 2-3 in state srats. They prefer the oos srats.
The in state girls suffer the most disappointment because they all want into those few 2-3 SC srats. Plus the HS group friends want to stay together in the same srat but often get broken up.

i have met many! trying to say oos or northern girls prefer to be blocked is incorrect.

They do not prefer to blocked. They prefer to be in a srat that is inclusive.

all the srats should be inclusive. those listed above are npc sororities, and there are policies in place against discrimination. national sororities are not local clubs. clemson is not HS 2.0. there is no justification for discriminating against northerners or oos students. this behavior would be sort of like trying to join a country club and being told you would be much happier down the street with your own kind. or as someone said above we need all the openings for our own kind. if the powers that be who run the university want it to be a in state school then perhaps they should either stop accepting oos students or warn them that it won’t be a fully inclusive experience.

The word “exclusive” is funny — I hate to break the news, but sororities are exclusive by definition. You don’t have a right to get invited in by any of them. That being said, it goes both ways….some PNM’s miss out by thinking they’re too good for mid or lower tiered houses. It’s a mutual selection process and if you go in knowing that you may not be asked back to more than a few houses and that’s okay! With the large number going through the PNM’s will not have much control over the process if they don’t keep an open mind.

Be yourself, trust your gut, have fun & have the confidence to know it will work out.

Contact your national sorority and tell them that you think it’s acceptable to discriminate against OOS girls. We would all love to hear what they say.

this comment was copied from the above feed. group one is "southern". group 2 is "northern". this comment is mean, rude and a biased stereotype. people are people and both types live in both places. this is not the only comment of its sort on this website.
