advice on fraternity rush
by: JWPosh7Need some honest opinion about whether or not I should rush in the fall. I went through smokers and got bids as a freshman, but my parents refused to pay so I had to drop. Obviously I would love to be in a fraternity, but my GPA has been to low to rush since then and will finally be at a 3.0 by next semester. The only downside is I will be a junior by then. Will this have any impact on getting bids or impact me negatively? Thanks in advance.

Go to as many pre-rush parties as you can to show brothers that you can thrive in a social environment and that you haven't spent the last 2 years locked up in a dorm room keeping to yourself. Give them something to talk about other than the fact that you're a junior. It is somewhat uncommon for juniors to get bids, especially from "top tier" fraternities, and keep in mind that if you do get a bid most of your pledge class will be freshmen. Don't be afraid to be upfront at rush and ask brothers how they feel about giving a bid to a junior. Asking brothers questions like that will show interest and will put you a step above all of the shy rushees that will get dropped first round.
