question about rush
by: anonI live in NC and plan on rushing fall 2014 as a freshman (I'm a girl). I know a few people at Clemson but I don't have too many connections in sororities. Is there a good chance I'll get a bid? Is there anything I can do over the summer that will improve my chances?

You have a chance! Not every sorority girls is from the south-I'm not and while most of my pledge class is we have girls from all over the country. It definitely helps to know girls in-house, though, so if you know anyone at all who's in a house here mentioning to them that you're going through recruitment could be beneficial for you. Letters of recommendation aren't required to be successful here but they can get you invited back to the second round and can be really helpful, so look into getting those. Best of luck!

Just be yourself and go in with an open mind! I rushed this year and thought I knew where I wanted to be and ended up somewhere entirely different and I can't imagine having gone anywhere else. There really is a sorority for everyone, you just have to find your home!

Do not worry about rush.. you will end up where you're meant to be. I'm from the Midwest and had no problem with harsh cuts, even from the very southern sororities. I actually felt like it somewhat gave an advantage - you can make a completely new impression considering you don't really know any current members. Only piece of advice: get recommendation letters, seriously I think they saved me on multiple occasions.

One of the biggest mistakes you could do going into rush is looking up the ranks. I know, everyone does it. I did it before rush and it was constantly on my mind. Rush is all about YOU finding where you are the most comfortable. Rush is more about the connections you make with the other women in the greek community and less about where you're from or what you wear. I was the first greek in my family and didn't have any rec letter but still ended up in an awesome sorority. Be yourself and keep an open mind and you'll be fine!
