2019 pnms numbers

by:

Panhellenic posted 750 PNMs have registered so far. Anyone know if we are trending above or below last year? Seems probably in line with 2018. I thought the predictions were for a higher turnout.

Yeah I think that’s right but I thought they were too....they say winning the national championship is supposed to bring more students...My friend is in a sorority at uofsc and said they had over like 1,600 girls already sign up....I know they are a much bigger school but that’s like over double

I thought the trend was for numbers to go down nationwide for the next several years due to declines in college enrollment. You can Google and see an article from US News and World Report this year. So I'm not surprised by Clemson's numbers.

We have one less sorority this year, so not expecting smaller new member classes, either same or larger depending?

the numbers are at 1000 now, which is close to what they were last year but with one less sorority, so more people won't get bids at all this year

That is not at all how it works. Can't tell if you're a troll or just ignorant.

Totally did not mean to upvote. Anyway NO is correct. Having one less sorority will not mean fewer people will get bids. If people stay in recruitment until the end and maximize their options, they will get a bid. People won't get a bid if they drop out of recruitment early, and I don't see anyone dropping out just because Theta is no longer a chapter here. They did not get that many people matching with them for bids in the first place (which is the reason they are not longer a chapter here). The number of bids should therefore be the same or slightly higher.

Yeah, the total number of bids is not affected by having one less house in the mix. The surplice is absorbed by the individual houses taking bigger new member classes.

I meant surplus not surplice!

It actually is how it works, I know lots of girls who were "released" from the process. Some girls reach a point where they are not asked back by any sorority, and are told this by the pi chi. They usually rush in the spring or next fall. Also, each sorority has a set number from nationals they need to be near. This number varies based on the sorority, but if they're below they have to COB to get to the number. COB will likely not happen, as all sororities should be able to get their number with the 1300 PNMs now registered. Lets just say each sorority wants 80 (which is a huge pledge class). That leaves over 300 girls who will be "released". Its really sad but it does happen.

Very few of the 1260 will be released from all chapters during recruitment. Far more common will be people who drop out because they decide sororities are not for them or because they become overwhelmed by the whole process. And unfortunately, even more of the people not receiving bids will be people who drop out because they are released by the one sorority they set their hearts on early on, and they did not want to give anyone else a chance.

I don't know the actual numbers, but last year I met a ton of girls during rush that ended up dropping because they didn't like who asked them back. I didn't meet anyone who went all the way thru and didn't get a bid.

Yes, if you rank each house where you pref you will get a bid to one of them guaranteed!
